Newtown "Funkytown" on Saturday night is bursting with a enormous choice of gastronomic establishments to choose from and is a hub for most Thai restaurants. Our stroll lead us to Thai Pothong (Golden Po Leaf) a place that has a laudible array of awards on its belt and boasts a huge hall-like layout, 100's of diners celebrate birthdays and anniversaries (we sang happy birthday 3-4 times!) or just enjoy a good night out with friends and food. Yet this isn't some Thai version of sizzler- this is all deftly orchestrated by a throng of waiterpersons who rush past and provide consummate service.

One look at the menu and momentary disappointment- at the realisation that there was way too much to choose from and we'd only be able to sample a few things- just as well! We opted for some classics padthai and thai beef salad but couldn't fit a curry too- pity, the aromas wafting through were almost enough to make us weep in regret (maybe it was the chilli) but at meal's end we had two very tired but very satisfied tummy's!

prawn served on a betel leaf with fried coconut, sweet chilli jam, lemon and caviar

something alcoholic with a splash of grenadine!

stir fried chicken, prawn with rice vermicelli noodles, crushed peanuts, bean sprouts and egg

thai beef salad with onions, tomato, cucumber and a lip smacking chilli and fish sauce dressing

  1. The Miang Goong looks delish! A good Thai Beef salad always hits the spot... No dessert? Given all the food there I'm not surprised!

  2. mmm thai food, those dishes look delish.. not to mention the cocktail :D

  3. I know it's pretty poor effort on my behalf but dessert would have pushed us over the edge!

But the food was delish and it's definitely worth going back to and showing some self restraint so as to sample more treats!
